About Us

Shotokan karate is one of the most traditional and widely practised forms of karate in the world today. Shotokan puts heavy focus on kihon (basic techniques), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) to develop a range of powerful, dynamic techniques. The Japan Karate Association (JKA) has refined the Shotokan style even further, creating a related, but unique style all of its own.

Mick Lowe and David Saint started Tokon in 2001, we attend most JKA England courses with our sensei, Yoshinobu Ohta, 7th Dan and then bringing these valuable lessons to our classes, here in Lincolnshire.

Three times a year we hold a grading, and JKA England will send Examiners to grade our students, usually Ohta sensei will take at least one of these gradings, but if he can’t make it then he will send another examiner in his place.
